What an estimate is for
Clients often ask for an estimate when the job is not fully clear. It helps them plan and compare people.
List the work in lines with a quantity and a price for each. Say in the terms what can change the cost, such as extra work or more materials.
Keep the estimate honest
Round numbers can hide cost. Use real quantities, for example hours or square meters, so the client sees how you got the total.
Set a valid-until date. Prices for materials and time change, and the date protects both sides.
When the client agrees
The estimate has an acceptance block with a name, a signature line and a date. Ask the client to sign it if you want a written yes.
Press Turn into invoice when the work is done. The lines move to a new invoice. Change them to the final amounts first.
Questions
What is the difference between an estimate and a quote?
An estimate is a best guess, and the final price can change. A quote is a fixed offer. Use an estimate when the job is not fully clear.
Can I add a deposit to an estimate?
Yes. Type a percent in the Deposit box. The estimate shows the deposit amount and the balance after the deposit.
How long should an estimate stay valid?
The page sets 30 days. Change the valid-until date if your prices change faster, for example for materials.
Does the client have to sign an estimate?
No. The estimate has a signature block for a written yes. You can print it, or send it for acceptance with Sign.
How do I turn the estimate into an invoice?
Press Turn into invoice. You get a new invoice with the next invoice number and today's date. Change the lines to the final amounts first.
How are estimate numbers made?
Estimates have their own numbers: E-0001, E-0002 and so on. They do not change your invoice numbers.
Do you upload my estimate?
